Summoning the dragon...
Traditional Kung Fu is a centuries-old Chinese martial art that combines physical training, self-defense techniques, and philosophical teachings. Rooted in ancient Chinese culture, it emphasizes discipline, balance, and harmony of body and mind. Training typically includes striking, kicking, stances, forms and weapon practice. Beyond combat, Kung Fu also focuses on mental development, meditation, and moral values such as respect, humility, and perseverance. It is not only a method of self-defense but also a holistic system for personal growth and physical well-being.
At Martial Arts Academy we follow Manchuria Style Kung Fu. It is a traditional Chinese martial art style with Northern Chinese origins, historically associated with the Manchu people and the Qing Dynasty (1644–1912), the last imperial dynasty of China. It is also commonly referred to by its place of origin, Manchuria.
As a Northern Chinese style, it is traditionally known for being airy, graceful, and expansive, featuring a strong emphasis on leg techniques, high kicks, and acrobatic jumps.
The art developed within the Imperial Guard of the Qing Dynasty. Due to its secretive military roots, it was transmitted privately and was only disseminated to the public after the decline of the empire in 1911.
This comprehensive style combines Northern legwork and high kicks with Southern animal techniques. Weapon styles were acquired through centuries of military campaigns and cultural exchange.
The Mansuria system often incorporates a wide range of animal styles, such as the Tiger, Monkey, Snake, Leopard, and Eagle, which are categorized based on their focus (e.g., power, flow, or accuracy).
While its roots are in China, Mansuria Kung Fu saw significant global dissemination through masters who left China after the Qing Dynasty's fall, including an important lineage established in India where it is one of the most prominent Kung Fu styles today.
